The brain becomes literally constructed by interactions with others....  Our neural machinery... is, by evolution, designed to be altered by relationship experiences.
                                      – Daniel Siegel  (2003)

Every psychotherapy relationship develops its own particular way of working together.  If you decide you’d like to work with me, it will be as if we’re inventing a new therapy just for you.  This individualized way of working will certainly draw on my professional training and experience, but it will always evolve into a unique relationship that attends to your lived experience.  We will work to resolve the effect of traumas, losses, and misattunements, on the one hand, and deepen areas of strengths and resilience, on the other.  I invite you to explore the information on this website to see if we might be a good fit.

I work a great deal with creative artists, gay men and lesbians, those with chronic illnesses, and others who grew up feeling they didn’t quite have a rightful place in the world.  You might find our work especially helpful if you find yourself affected by past developmental or shock trauma. You may want to prepare yourself for a new relationship or to improve existing ones, look for increased satisfaction in your living situation (working with what I call “the Deeper Psychology of Home”), or seek a more integrated and balanced life.  You may be outwardly successful but nonetheless wish to find a greater sense of peace, meaning, energy, and connection in your life.

I work primarily with adults in individual or group psychotherapy, or both.  The work includes traditional talk therapy (with an emphasis on interpersonal and existential perspectives) and mind-body therapies, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Somatic Experiencing (SE).  The principles of SE, in particular, will inform all our work.  They have been transformative both for myself and for my clients.
